Marching along

The month is almost over. It has been lovely here for that past week though a bit windy. Kids were on spring break. I got to see them a lot.

I did manage to sew everyday. I folded more fabrics and put away tools I had forgotten I had. I also fixed my granddaughters beloved backpack zipper. She was in tears about the zipper breaking on the last day before spring break. I did what I could. Wasn't pretty but it works. Only has to last until the end of school.

Thursday was Road Trip! Took the three boys and their mom to Aunt Robins farm. I only took 2 pictures because we were having such a good time. They chased the chickens and ducks, dug in the dirt, and collected giant pine cones. They were in heaven. They don't go outside much where we live because every few feet there are ant mounds.

Yesterday I watch the 2 littlest grandsons Age 2 and age 10 months.  They physically beat me up by climbing on me. Old injured Grandma is easy to climb. I can't run away fast enough. Ha Ha! I taught the 2 year old to open and close his pajama zipper. I am sure his mother will appreciate this...NOT! He is a nudest and after the novelty wears off he will streak around the house.

Their parents had such a great time at the Renaissance Festival a few weeks ago, they decided that their 8 year old would enjoy this adventure as well. I was a bit nervous for him as he is autistic and sometimes gets extremely over stimulated and falls apart. They had a blast. The first event they watch was birds of prey. The announcer stated that everyone was allowed to use outside voices. My daughter said that is all he needed to hear and he let himself relax. He enjoyed the jostling and was cheering for the good knight! He also won a Nemo stuffy from the fishbowl ring toss. WTG Louie!!! In the end his favorite thing was the tiny bonsai tree he came home with.

Today I am tasked with making a Little paper doll quilt for Raina. She will be 5 on Thursday. I saw a few online but could not afford to buy the pattern and print it out. I am out of ink and the cartridge is $36 dollars plus the pattern was 12.99. I could buy a nice present for that amount of money. So tomorrow I will try to get the body done and go from there. If it doesn't work I have money I didn't spend to go buy a present. LOL.

Finish the Clean up . Hopefully

Dress was a success. She felt really pretty and princess like in it. What else can a mother want.
Oh but the mess in my sewing was over the top. I let it go until Monday. Wiped out from kid sitting. So now it will be my time. On with the clean up!!! HA!

I have to stop looking for easy patterns and just sew. The inspiration online is overwhelming at times.

Continued folding fabric and pulling scraps. Not many in the pink tub but quite a few in 3 green tubs. March RSC is green. Time to sew a few things together. Still have not sewn Green but have a full sweater tub of green scraps. SMH. Green remains my favorite color.  I still have brown to fold today.

Now I have a dilemma. What I have left to fold is Novelty. Cats, Dogs, Childrens, Stars, Celestial, 4th of July, Halloween, Easter....you get the idea. They currently have there own sweater tubs with the scraps in them. I also have a huge Rubbermaid tub of Christmas fabric.

My question is: Do I leave them separated or treat them as color and put them with the rest of the fabric?
I have another set of shelves on the other side of closet. I stopped buying novelty fabric a long time ago because I rarely use it. I do want to make 2 I spy quilts but will be cutting a piece off of each fabric as I fold them.

Please leave a comment and let me know what you do with your novelties.

I found a baggie of really ugly bits that one of the ways and means lady gave me to put together. Oh boy....so I search and search and found a pattern that may suit these questionable fabrics. Not to much thinking involved but the result may be good for these sad fabrics.
X Marks the Block by FabricTherapy. Below is the first step. I think I will use my scraps to do the side strips.

March-ing

This week started at a leisurely pace. No Quilt Show. No pending obligations.  Thank goodness. I work well with deadlines. There are times I need mindless sewing to calm my soul.

I sewed purple 4 patches and my leader - enders were red and white 2"- 4 patches found while cleaning up my sewing room. My goal was to get through those purple scraps and start the green RSC on Sunday.

As it happens I kept getting sucked into the internet. All the free patterns with such great potential!!!! I had to stop myself after I realized I was not sewing and wasting hours with my face in the monitor!!! Stop Already!!!! Oh but the patterns.....
I started a folder for charity quilts aimed at boys . I found so many that I will never be able to make a third of these.  Ah but I can share what I have found in the monthly guild newsletter.

My youngest daughter has 3 boys.  They are 8, 2, and 10 months.  The 2 year old just started sleeping through the night about 7 months ago. The 10 month old does not like to sleep, so she has not slept in about 2 years. I thought she and her husband could use a mental health date. Usually I watch the boys for about 4 hours tops. After I go home I sleep for 2 days. They wear me out. Having 2 of 3 kids under 2 is mentally draining. You just can't blink or there is hell to pay.

I offer my Grandma services. They are thrilled but..... Instead of dinner and a movie, they would like to go to the Renaissance Festival. Oh okay???? I am thinking that 10 month old will run me ragged. He crawls stealthily. I miss the era of bells on kids shoes. Wouldn't help in this case, no shoes yet. So I said I would watch them. Next morning my daughter wants to know if we can go to thrift shop and put together a costume for her to wear. Okay. I pass my neighbor outside who offers up some sheets and a duvet. Free stuff! Yipee!  From the duvet I made this. Took me about 6 hours.  The kids were running around like maniacs! I tried not to look at the piles of toys, crumbs, fabric scraps thrown all over my house. They did clean up before they left and she also made dinner so I could keep sewing. Win Win.

She calls it her Wizard dress. She loves it.  All I needed to hear.

Working Hard

Wow Its March already. February was quite a fast and short month. The Quilt Show was last week. This week I have to get the newsletter ready. I  have been working on it for several days. To much info to fit into 12 pages. It will come together in the end.

I did get a little sewing done on my UFO from February, that I moved into March OMG. It is at the odd looking stage right now. For more info Click here

Saturday a new guild member had a Fabric Stash Sale. Quilt shop quality. $2.00 per yard! A lot of 5-6 yard pieces. So how can you beat $10 to $12 bucks for backings!  Could not pass this up.
